There are also many historic mines to explore in North Carolina as well as several museums.
Have an outdoor adventure
North Carolina has some incredible natural beauty worth exploring. It’s home to the Blue Ridge Mountains and sports arguably the most challenging section of the Appalachian Trail. Mount Mitchell and Whitewater Falls are two of the most popular natural sights – you can hike your way to these landmarks. Thrillseekers can meanwhile take up a variety of activities from mountain biking to ziplining to white water rafting.
Spectate at a sports event
The state also attracts a lot of sports fans. It’s famous for its NASCAR and hosts some of the country’s biggest races – it’s worth looking out for events at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Other popular sports include football, basketball and wrestling.
Hit the beach
Another reason to visit North Carolina is its coast. The Outer Banks is the perfect destination for a beach getaway, featuring iconic sandy dune beaches. Surfing is popular along North Carolina’s coast, as is hand gliding. The coast also offers sights such as Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which is the tallest brick lighthouse in the US.
