Off to Oklahoma!

You will have probably done all the main US sights and attractions by now. You know the ones I mean – the likes of California, New York City, and Las Vegas. Are you ready to escape all the crowds of tourists and get off the beaten track? Well, have I got just the destination for you!

How about Oklahoma? This Midwestern state isn’t exactly the largest in the country, but that doesn’t mean that you will be short of things to do. Here’s a little taste of what to expect in the Sooner State.

Tulsa

The US state capital of Oklahoma, the city of Tulsa is situated on the Arkansas River. It’s a great destination for families as there is plenty for kids to see and do. They will have a great day spotting all of the local and exotic wildlife that lives in Tulsa Zoo. After the kids have fallen asleep, hire a babysitter so that you can sneak away to the Blue Dome Entertainment District, where you will find a wide selection of restaurants, live music venues, and cocktail bars. If you want to get back in touch with nature, you can do just that at the Tulsa River Parks. Here you’ll find plenty of nature trails, golf courses, and fishing opportunities.

Oklahoma City

Another city that is well worth a visit is beautiful Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum has recently undergone a $10 million renovation and its modern exhibitions tell the story of the state’s history and culture. It’s also a good idea to plan time to walk over the Crystal Bridge. There is a large tropical conservatory on the bridge that features two very distinct climates, perfect for flora from around the world to thrive. Accommodation in the city can be quite expensive, so it’s worth booking a room at Best Western Seminole Inn & Suites or one of the other hotels in nearby Seminole. It’s just under an hour’s drive between Seminole and the city.

Broken Bow Lake

If you want to escape city life and get out into nature, then head to Broken Bow Lake in McCurtain County. This huge body of water covers an astounding 14,000 acres and has plenty of shoreline that you can fish off. There are also lots of walking trails that follow the lake’s shore, so there will be plenty of chances for you to stretch your legs. Don’t forget to pack a picnic!

Quartz Mountain Nature Park

You will find the scenic Quartz Mountain Nature Park in southwest Oklahoma. This is a large recreational area, and you will find lots of walking and mountain biking trails. Families also go out on paddle boats on the lake and play on the mini golf course. It’s also a very popular destination with fishermen, and it’s possible to book onto special fishing trips to the nature park.

So, do you think Oklahoma should be your next US destination? You will definitely have lots of fun if you do choose it!
