There are so many reasons to visit the USA if you ever the get the chance. Heck, even if you’re a born and bred American yourself it can often feel like you’re never going to get the chance to experience everything that the country has to offer. However, a lot of people end up going to the same places again and again. And sure, places like New York and California have plenty of offer any traveller; they’re far from the only options available to you. With that in mind, here are five seriously underrated states that you should give a chance to on your next trip.
When people think of Michigan, they tend to immediately think of Detroit. While there’s plenty to recommend Detroit, especially if you’re seriously into cars, it’s not exactly the most picturesque place in the world. However, it’s home to some incredible hidden gems like Mackinac Island with its beautiful views of Lake Huron, and it’s complete and total lack of cars.
Montana gets called “America’s Switzerland” for a good reason. Bordering the U.S. and Canada, Montana is one of the most naturally beautiful parts of America with some breathtaking mountainous landscapes and incredible sites like Glacier National Park that are pretty much guaranteed to take your breath away.
North Carolina is one of those places that has something for everyone. If you’re looking for thrills, then you can’t go wrong with the Charlotte Motor Speedway, especially when you can stay so close to it at amazing prices at the Days Inn Charlotte North-Speedway-UNCC-Research Park. But if you’re looking for something a little more peaceful then you’re going to want to check out The Outer Banks, some seriously underappreciated beaches with no crowds and some amazing lighthouses.
If there is one place that defines the phrase “picturesque” better than just about any other, it’s this New England State. Massachusetts may be famous for Boston, but the real jewels in its crown are all of the amazing little towns that you can find all over the state. Whether you’re looking to go sailing, surfing, sunbathing, or you simply want to get to know the friendly locals, Massachusetts is the kind of place that many people can easily see themselves settling down in a few years time.
There are few places in America with the kind of natural beauty that can challenge the sights in Wisconsin. Whether it’s the lighthouses overlooking the gorgeous lake superior or the incredible coastline of Door County, this is the kind of place where you’re going to want your camera close by at all times so that you have the chance to capture all of the amazing sights forever.
Of course, America is so big and so varied that there are probably dozens of states that aren’t on this list that are just as underrated. The key is to give a chance to places that you might not normally visit and find your own little corner of paradise that no one else has found.
