When people think of beach holidays they’re usually thinking about going somewhere exotic like the Caribbean or Spain, they’re not usually thinking of Texas. The state is known for a lot of things but most people don’t tend to associate it with relaxing on the beach and sunbathing. But Texas has a 400 mile stretch of beautiful coastline with some of the best beaches in the country. It’s a lot cheaper going there than it is to fly halfway across the world to find a great beach. You can also experience all of the other great things that Texas has to offer while you’re there as well. If you’re looking for a great beach destination and you think that Texas might be the place to find it, these are some of the best places to visit.
If it’s a family friendly destination that you’re looking for then Crystal Beach is probably your best bet. This seven miles long stretch of beach is a little bit quieter than a lot of the other beaches in Texas so it’s perfect for a relaxing family getaway. There is plenty to do on the beach and in the surrounding area but one of the biggest attractions is the fishing. There are plenty of opportunities for you to try your hand at catching fish and crabs yourself and then in the evenings, you can visit one of the many local restaurants that serve seafood caught fresh that morning. There’s nothing quite like eating a meal that was caught fresh from the beach that you’ve spent the day on. While you’re there, you can stay in one of the nice beach cabins which are ideal for family groups.
As the name suggests, Grapevine Lake isn’t technically a beach but it really feels like one when you’re there. This beautiful lake has so much going on so it’s the perfect destination for people that like to keep busy while they’re away. You can do some fishing here too as well as boating, water skiing and windsurfing. There are also loads of biking and hiking trails around the surrounding countryside. You can camp in the area or, if that doesn’t take your fancy, find a hotel in Richardson, Texas which is just a short drive away. There’s so much going on at Grapevine Lake that you won’t get bored but if you do fancy a change, you can always explore Richardson as well.
Rockport beach is considered one of the cleanest beaches in the area which is always a bonus. It’s also one of the safest which makes it ideal for families with young kids or people that aren’t too confident in the water. The lack of big waves and strong undertows mean that everybody can safely get in the water without having to worry. The surrounding area is filled with some great galleries, restaurants and gift shops to keep you entertained if you get tired of sitting on the beach all day.
These are just 3 of the amazing beaches you should check out in Texas next time you’re down that way.
