Do you feel like you are ready to recharge your batteries and take a break from your busy life? How about booking a trip to a relaxing island getaway? There are many fantastic island destinations dotted around the world, each with their very own attractions and beauty spots. To help you decide where your next relaxing vacation should be, here are some of the best options out there.
Maui Island, Hawaii
If you have already looked into visiting Hawaii, you will have already seen that it is made up of a few different islands. One of the most popular is Maui. Once the destination of whalers and sailing expeditions, it is now where most tourists stay when visiting Hawaii. Thanks to its location close to the other islands, it is a great base for those who want to go island hopping. There are many great hiking opportunities around Maui, such as the trek that takes walkers up to the top of Haleakala Volcano.
Grand Cayman Islands, The Caribbean
There are plenty of things to do in Grand Cayman Islands, no matter whether you are young or old. Young children will love visiting the Cayman Turtle Farm where they can pet and hold all the baby turtles. It’s a good idea to hire a babysitter one night, though, so that you can soak up the island’s amazing nightlife. There are lots of rum bars and night clubs across the island. Feeling fragile the next day? You can always sleep the hangover off on one of the gorgeous beaches!
Majorca, The Balearics
If you have already visited Spain’s mainland, you might be a bit curious about all its islands. The best group of Spanish Islands has to be the Balearics, of which Majorca is the biggest. The main city on Majorca is Palma, which is extremely lively and also has some fantastic architecture and history. Make sure you have your camera with you when you visit its Gothic cathedral, La Seu. If you are a literary fan, you can visit Robert Graves’ house on the island. The poet, novelist, and historian lived in the pretty village of Deia.
Mykonos, The Greek Islands
One of the most glamorous of the Greek islands, Mykonos attracts a wide range of tourists. Young adults head there for its unmissable nightlife while older tourists visit to soak up its natural beauty and rich culture. The beaches and hip coastal bars and restaurants are always busy, especially in the summer high season. However, there are ways to escape the crowds. The best way is to stay out of the towns and stick to hiking around the beautiful countryside. The island is right next to the tiny island of Delos, which is known as a prominent archaeology site.
Hopefully, this blog post has helped to make the decision of which island to visit a bit easier. But one thing is for sure – you won’t be disappointed no matter which you choose!
Have a great trip – don’t forget to send us a postcard!
